Almshouse Association Podcast

Almshouse Association Podcast

In October we welcomed Nick Philips, the CEO of the Almshouse Association, and Jeremy Porteous, Director of Housing LIN, to the Cloisters, in Ewelme. The Almshouse Association was using our historic Muniment Room as the setting for one in a new series of podcasts about almshouse living.  The podcast will be released in the new year, but without giving too much away, Nick and Jeremy were joined by Mr Brannan, a resident in the Cloisters and the Trust Manager, to probe the value and benefits that accrue from almshouse living. The conversation was wide-ranging, embracing architecture, community, health and wellbeing, history and tradition. In a room that has witnessed the work of the Charity for nearly 600 years, this coming together of residents, staff and sector champions, was a gentle reminder of the enduring power of almshouses. They are homes, places of work, organisations to which people give of their time so generously and, often, civic landmarks. These threads weave together into very special communities; ones that while custodians of the past, are alert to the moment and are working collaboratively to foster wellbeing and address need in all its current complexities.
